Family Therapy

Strengthen connections and resolve conflicts with supportive therapy for families of all shapes and sizes.

Family Therapy

Whether you are a blended family, a multigenerational family or a more traditional nuclear family, our team can help you develop strategies for reducing conflict and enjoying more loving relationships. Family therapy is a type of counselling designed to help individuals and their families improve communication and address any underlying issues. It can provide crucial insights into family dynamics and aid in the process of reuniting distant family members. People come to family therapy for a variety of reasons, including blended family issues, intergenerational conflicts, caregiving struggles, or cultural differences. Through this process, all family members can learn how to communicate effectively and work together to identify and solve complex problems.

Family systems therapy looks at the larger system when examining individual behaviours within a family unit, connecting individual struggles with their impact on the entire group. This includes identifying patterns of communication, decision making processes, roles within the group, and overall functioning of the family. A strong relationship between families provides security and support that can help us overcome difficult aspects of life. Family therapy works to strengthen these relationships so each member can come out better off on the other side.

Our therapists work collaboratively with families to help improve relationships and create family structures that support openness, honesty, sensitivity and mutual respect. We use culturally-informed, family systems approaches and interventions, supported by EFFT (Emotionally Focussed Family Therapy) and PACT for families.

“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.

— Virginia Satir
